Sexual Problems

What are sexual problems – (Erectile dysfunction) ?

Sex is a function of our body, which is influenced by both physical as well as psychological factors. A person should be in a healthy physical and psychological state to enjoy a happy sexual life.

According to Ayurved sexual activity serves the dual purpose of reproduction and pleasure. The problems related to sex and their treatments are described under a specialty branch called Vajikarana. Vajikarana is defined as

1. Vajivati baloyena iti Vajikarana – A person is capable of performing a sexual act similar to the strength of a horse. --- A quantitative approach

2. Chaitya vriksha miva -- Helpful in producing a healthy progeny by strengthening the quality of the sperm and total health of the individual--- A qualitative approach.

Most of the latest aphrodisiacs simply concentrate on the function of performance but not on the quality of the sperm and the total health of the person.

The herbs used in improving or correcting the sexual problems serve both quantitatively and qualitatively without any side effects.

Most of the sexual problems have their origin in the psychology of the person, such as stress, anxiety, fear, mistrust etc.

The most common problem men face regarding sex is

  1. An inadequate erection or inability to maintain complete erection till the end of the sexual act. This is generally called as erectile dysfunction. According to Ayurved this is due to inadequate nourishment of the shukra dhatu, which is responsible for sexual functions of a person. Avoiding psychological factors, and nourishing the sukra dhatu with proper diet and herbs can correct this.
  2. Premature ejaculation – The cause of this problem is the aggravated vyana and apana aspects of Vata dosha . All factors which aggravate vata like inadequate sleep, intake of dry, very spicy, astringent, and bitter foods for a long time can become the cause of premature ejaculation. Herbs play an important role in controlling the aggravated vata.
