What is AIDS - in Ayurveda (RAJYAKSHAMA OR OJAKSHAYA)
?
According
to ayurveda the disease we know as AIDS is not specifically mentioned
as a particular disease. It has symptoms which match up with Kshaya,
Rajyakshama, Ojakshaya and even Shoth. This matches closest to Rajyakshama
or Ojakshaya and therefore there remains a controversy regarding its
true ayurvedic nomenclature. This is because both these disease have
practically similar symptoms and signs.
Some scholars regard it as Rajyakshama and some as Ojakshaya. AIDS
is considered as a kaphaja disorder which tends to block the strotas
and dhatus of the body leading to impaired nutrition and thereby starving
of the body as a result of which kshaya sets in. this may take the
form of dhatu kshaya primarily and surface as Rajyakshama, or may
lead to a total immune loss and produce a syndrome like situation
which is similar to what we know as Ojakshaya.
What is HIV ?
The
virus which causes AIDS is HTLV type retrovirus (Human T – Lymphotropic
Virus ). This leads to a loss in immunity as a result of invasion
of lymphocytes ( body’s defense mechanism ). This causes impairment
of body’s defense and a person suffers from a syndrome known
as AIDS.
What
are the Signs and sympotoms ?
The
major symptoms are:
loss of appetite, drastic loss of weight-emaciation, fatigue and lethargy,
susceptibility to allergies and contagious diseases, sin irritations,bronchial
disorders, often leading to tuberculosis of the lungs damage to intestinal
flora resulting in diarrhea, dysentery, gastritis and, wide fluctuations
in body temperature. prolonged fever, sleeplessness etc
What
